Introduction to Coffee

Beginner Wednesdays

Where every barista's journey begins. Before the first shot is pulled, there is the bean — its origin, its variety, and the science of what makes a great cup. This foundation course opens the world of specialty coffee from seed to sip, taught hands-on at the espresso bar by trainers who work the craft daily.

What You Will Learn

  • Coffee's journey from farm to cup — origins, arabica and robusta, harvesting and processing methods
  • How roasting, grinding and freshness shape flavour
  • Foundational tasting: identifying sweetness, acidity, body and bitterness in the cup
  • An overview of brew methods — espresso, filter and immersion — and what each does to the same bean
  • The landscape of Singapore's coffee industry and where the career paths lead

What You Will Walk Away With

  • A genuine working vocabulary of coffee — enough to taste, describe and discuss with confidence
  • Hands-on familiarity with the equipment behind the bar
  • A clear view of your next step on the vocational track, from ACF certification onward
