The stone the builders rejected
“The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvellous in our eyes.” — Psalm 118:22–23
Every barista learns to sort. You pick out the broken beans, the under-ripe ones, the ones that will taste of nothing. It is an ordinary act of judgement, repeated a hundred times a shift, and nobody thinks twice about it.
People get sorted too. Long before a person walks through our door, someone has already decided what they are worth — a file, a sentence, a record, a family that gave up. And the terrible thing about being sorted is how quickly you start agreeing with the verdict.
Psalm 118 does not say the rejected stone was secretly fine all along. It says the builders were wrong, and God built with it anyway — and put it in the one place the whole structure leans on. That is not a motivational line. It is a claim about who gets to do the final sorting, and it is not the builders.
So if today you have been handed somebody's verdict about you, hold it loosely. The hands that make the last decision about your life are not the hands that rejected you.

Whose verdict have you been carrying as though it were final? What would today look like if it were not?
Pray
Lord, You see what others discarded. Build with me anyway. Give me the courage to show up tomorrow as someone You are not finished with. Amen.

“Do I have to be a Christian to join?”
No. The Academy is faith-anchored and this track is openly Christian — we would be dishonest to hide that. But the coffee and soft-skills training serve people of every faith and none, no one is required to believe anything to be trained, hired or valued here, and nobody is ever pressured. Dignity here is for everyone.
