The TCE Academy

The TCE Academy · Singapore

Marginality is not destiny. It is the soil where second chances grow.

We equip people on the margins — those returning from incarceration, youth disengaged from school, and lives interrupted by trauma — with the craft, character, and confidence to write a new chapter. Inside a working espresso bar that doubles as a classroom.

“He has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.”

By the numbers

Real wages. Real homes. Real restoration.

Since 2017, we’ve measured success not in trainees enrolled but in lives rebuilt — in BTOs secured, in payslips received, in cycles of incarceration broken.

The Curriculum

Four pathways. One purpose.

We don’t teach skills in isolation. Every learner moves through four interwoven streams — because lasting restoration needs more than a barista certificate.

Coffee Craft

SCA & ASEAN Coffee Institute-aligned training in espresso, milk science, brewing, and sensory evaluation — taught on live bar.

  • Espresso fundamentals → advanced extraction
  • Milk texturing & latte art
  • Filter / pour-over methods
  • Singapore Kopi & Teh sock method
  • Q-grader sensory foundations
🛠

Life Skills

Money, identity, conflict, and the hidden grammar of holding down a job — rebuilt from the ground up.

  • Financial literacy & budgeting
  • Resume, interview & workplace conduct
  • Conflict resolution & communication
  • Digital literacy (Singpass to Slack)
  • Time, sleep, and energy management

Pastoral Care

Trauma-informed biblical counselling delivered with full respect for Singapore’s multi-religious context. Optional, never coerced.

  • 1-on-1 mentorship
  • Addiction & identity restoration
  • Trauma-informed Bible studies
  • Family reintegration support
  • Devotional & rhythm of rest
📈

Business Apprenticeship

For graduates who show readiness: store-opening, P&L, team leadership, and the path from barista to manager to founder.

  • Opening & closing SOPs
  • Daily revenue & cost-of-goods reads
  • Team scheduling & coaching
  • Customer recovery & service
  • Pathway to franchise or founder track
Who we walk with

Two pathways into TCA. One promise on the other side.

We don’t take a placement and call it a programme. We take a person, walk a runway with them, and stay long after the certificate is signed.

Yellow Ribbon Pathway

For lives re-entering after incarceration.

We work alongside Singapore Prison Service and Yellow Ribbon Singapore to receive men and women returning from incarceration — including those still on CRC, bail, or pre-trial status. This is not a placement; it is a runway.

Youth Pathway

For youth disengaged or recovering from early trauma.

For youth-at-risk, those disengaged from school, or recovering from early trauma. The café becomes a classroom, the bar becomes a desk, and the work becomes a structure that holds.

Sherina
Long-term Recovery · Yellow Ribbon

51. Incarcerated eight times. Now nine years drug-free and the carer of 25 rescued cats.

“Mercy works — slowly, patiently, and all the way through.”
Adrian
Yellow Ribbon Pathway

Came home after 3½ years inside. Today: a BTO key, a wife, and a daughter who knows her father.

“Rebuilding marriage and fatherhood — that’s the hardest, holiest work.”
Daffi
Father Pathway · CRC

Released from CRC with an infant son facing heart surgery. His first payslip arrived just in time.

“Provision and presence — I get to be both, finally.”
Yara
Pre-trial · Youth

19, on bail, learning the bar. Her plan: become the social worker she wishes had reached her at sixteen.

“I want to be the person I needed when I was sixteen.”
Ari
Youth Pathway · DRC

Released after 9 months in DRC at 19. Within four months at TCA: store opener and outlet lead.

“The keys to the shop — and the keys to my own life — at the same time.”
