Out Into The Open

You have probably known a room that felt too small. Not the size of it, but the weight. A hospital corridor. A cell. A flat where the letters kept coming and the walls seemed to lean in. You held your breath without meaning to. And then, one day, you stepped outside into ordinary air, and something in your chest unlocked. You could breathe again. Nothing was solved yet. But there was space, and space felt like a beginning.

David wrote these words after being hunted and hemmed in. Enemies had closed around him; he speaks of cords of death and torrents pressing hard. Then the rescue comes. He does not say only that God pulled him from danger. He says God brought him out into a broad place. And he gives the reason, tender and almost surprising: not because David had earned it, but because God delighted in him. The wide place was an act of love, not a reward.

Maybe today you are still in the narrow room. Notice one small opening. A phone call you can make. A window you can open. A short walk where the sky is bigger than the ceiling. God's heart is to lead you out, not because you have proved yourself, but because He is glad you are His. Let one small step of space be enough for today.
